"Chak de" in punjabi is "lets rock"
Chak de ROCKS... amazing screenplay, steady speed, fast and furious matches(though i think they could do with better cimematography.. specially to make the goals a bit more exiting..).. I loved it.
The regional accents were hilarious.. so enjoyable. The politics among the girls so real.. the jealousy so true.
Most of all what i liked about tchk de is that it touches so many important topics, burning topics i'd say... and still manages to give the viewers a fun filled time. It never goes over the top.. all the messages are so subtle. Some of them..
1. Poor state of sports in india, specially hocky.
2. Extreme reactions and over hype to everything from losing a match to mild success.
3. Communal devide(I loved the scene where kabir khan is asked by his friend why does he wnt to come back to hocky.. and why does he feel so guilty.. and says.. "EK GALATI TO SAB KO MAAF HOTI HAI" SRK replies "SABKO... NAHI". So beautifully subtle.. so to the point.)
4. Regional devide.
5. Individual Vs the team.
6. Female position in society.
7. Professionalism and falling standards of morals(remember how the senior girl offered Kabir khan her body, Kabir khan declining the offer, but calling her to play when the team needed her..)
These are topics which are good enough to make a sereis of films on each.. but chakde just packs them togather and gives clear to the point message.
I loved the movie.. and i could do so coz there was no SRK in it.. there was kabir khan.. not shahrukh khan.

An excellent review of the film Chak De India.Thanks.
As for me,I was a bit apprehensive about watching 'Chak De India' coz'I thought it'll be like any other sports based film and a cheap clone to Chariots of Fire or Bend it like Beckham or for that matter Lagaan.With this pre -formed idea, I went to watch Chak De and I came back home deeply moved.
Though there was a small news item on Mir Ranjan Negi as the inspiration for the said film, it hardly stirred me. And then I saw Kabir Khan, and I knew what pain and agony Mr.Negi suffered being called a traiter, and a match fixer.How we majority look with suspicion every time a muslim falters.
SRK as the coach of hockey team was so very real and unassuming.This is the first time I've seen SRK getting into the skin of a character absolutely and consumed the role totally.Such terrific one liners by him and such an understated stellar performance by him.
The girls rocked. Komal,Bindiya,Preeti,Vidya etc.left an indelible marked on me that'll be hard to erase for a long time.A gender fight and that too in the upmarket mall was hilarious.Their petty squabbles, their regional holier than thou attitude, their altercations and brawls paving way to mutual acceptance and eventually onset of team spirit shows how a SPORT is superior to silly regional and personal politics.
My strong recommendation to those who havn't yet seen the movie is Chak De India is a 'must see'
What I dislike about shahrukh khan is that he is so over the top mostly...
I loved him in fauji.. perhaps my first "Hero" But in movies.. i think he was wasted.. to commercial success... to his on screen image.
I remember becoming fascinated with a show called "The wonder years".... kevin and winnie.. what a sweet pairing.. and the friend.. I guess it was paul...

SRK in Swades was good too.
Are 'Chak De' and 'Lagaan' comparable? What's your view re that?
Nopes dont recall watching The wonder years.
Actually being a die hard SRK basher.. I avoided Swades....
There's nothing in common amont the two movies.. Lagaan was so Jingoistic.. full of over the top mythologically inclined scenes.. while Chak de is so REAL.. no overdise of drama..
Lagaan scored more in the music dept. though.. just could'nt get enough of mitva song...
They have started The Wonder Years again on "z cafe" I'll write up something about it.. just need to refresh with a re run..!! :)
